WASHINGTON (AGN.News) – The United States of America has always valued its young and old alike. The Founding Fathers came to value the young statesmen among them.
These young people brought a valuable array of experience to the founding principles that govern America today.
There were approximately 152 Founding Fathers. Among them were fifteen top leaders and seven key figures between the 1760s and the 1820s. This article will highlight six of the 152 Founding Fathers of the United States.
Six memorable U.S. Founding Fathers
In 1776, John Adams (1735-1826) was 41 years old. He became the first Vice President of the United States from April 21, 1789 – March 4, 1797. Then he became the second President of the United States from March 4, 1797 to March 4, 1801.
In 1776, Samuel Adams (September 27, 1722 – October 2, 1803) was 54 years old and an American stateman and a leader in the movement that became the American Revolution. He was a second cousin to his fellow Founding Father, President John Adams.
In 1776, Benjamin Franklin (January 17, 1706 – April 17, 1790) was 70 years old. He was an active writer, inventor, statesman, diplomat, printer, publisher, and a Founding Father of the United States.
Franklin was a drafter and signer of the Declaration of Independence, and the first Postmaster General of the United States.
In 1776, Alexander Hamiliton (January 11, 1755 or 1757 – July 12, 1804) was 21 years old. He was a Founding Father and the first Secretary of the Treasury from September 11, 1789 to January 311, 1795 while George Washington was president.
In 1776, Thomas Jefferson (April 13, 1743 to July 4, 1826) was 44 years old. Jefferson was a statesman, diplomat, and Founding Father who served as the third President of the United States from 1801 to 1809. Jefferson was the primary author the Declaration of Independence.
He was the first U.S. Secretary of State under George Washington and the nation’s second vice president.
Jefferson was the second United States Minister to France. He was also the second Governor of Virginia from June 1, 1779 to June 3, 1781.
In 1776, James Madison Jr (March 16, 1751 – June 28, 1836) was 25 years old. He was an American statesman, diplomat, Founding Father, and the fourth President of the United States from March 4, 1809 – March 4, 1817.
Madison is hailed as the “Father of the Constitution” for his role in drafting the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights.
These Founding Fathers were examples
Today, we may be surprised to know that there was a Founding Father who was just 21 years old when America declared its independence from Great Britain.
Madison was only 25 years old. Despite their age they were experienced statesmen. They are excellent role models and examples for young Americans today.
Today, as young women and men grow in knowledge and life experience they can excel in community-level knowledge of America and gain more experience from mentors.
Now more than ever before, America needs its young to become foundation stones upon which America’s ideas of democracy can thrive and provide accumulative support for a “more perfect union”.
