WASHINGTON D.C. – President-elect Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th President of the United States at 12:00 noon eastern time today, Wednesday, January 20, 2021.
America welcomes the 46th President of the United States, Joseph Robinette Biden Jr., and the 49th Vice President of the United States, Kamala Devi Harris, to Washington, D.C. and the White House.
Today, January 20, 2021, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris went to Arlington National Cemetery and paid their respects to the many who gave their most valued possession, the ultimate sacrifice, to help make America a “more perfect union”.
Helping Americans “Build Back Better” an America for all Americans as one people requires “unity”, was the message of the day.
President Joe Biden, speaking at the Lincoln Memorial, said, “Democracy is precious and because of you democracy prevailed.” “This is a great nation. We’re a good people.”, he said.
“And to overcome the challenges in front of us requires the most elusive of all things in a democracy, unity. It requires us to come together in common love that defines us as Americans. Opportunity, liberty, dignity and respect. And unite against common foes, hate, violence, disease, and hopelessness. America’s story depends not on any one of us, not on some of us, but on all of us.” – President Joe Biden at the Lincoln Memorial.
Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States (1861–1865), wore a wool and silk lined coat with a hand-embroidered lining featured an eagle carrying a banner reading “One Country, One Destiny.” The phrase comes from an 1837 speech given by one of Lincoln’s role models, Senator Daniel Webster.
The message of “One Country, One Destiny” continues to motivate us today.
President Abraham Lincoln, by wearing that coat with those words gave us a message for the ages. As to remind us of how precious those words are, they were mirrored by President Joe Biden as he called for unity over 155 years later.
Fulfilling his promise to go to work on day one, President Joe Biden, in the Oval Office at the White House, signed 17 Executive Orders designed to tackle the challenges America faces at home and abroad as one country, one destiny.
