WASHINGTON (AGN.News) – “The world is going to hell in a hand basket.” This has been the viewpoint or outcry of countless people throughout generations time.
Why? Because of the uncertainty of current events and the effect those events have had on previous generations and are having on modern day families, individuals and groups.
Modern day challenges for families
For many families food insecurity is a challenge. For others, job security is a challenge. For many others, health insecurity heads their list. Inflation or the rising cost of products and services are at the top of many lists of challenges.
For many, just trying to survive as an individual or family from day to day is their number one challenge. Just dealing with community acquired or shared problems is a challenge.
Every generation has challenges
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who served as the 32nd president of the United States from 1933 until his death in 1945, came into office during the worldwide Great Depression of 1929 through 1939, saw first hand what people had to endure.
As U.S. President, Roosevelt lead the effort to help Americans meet the challenges of the day. Under his watch, economic measures were put in place to help individuals and families survive. History records what some of those measures were and how they help many survive.
What help to inspire many were his words. He learned a lot about people and survival from being governor of New York state from January 1, 1929 – January 1, 1933 when he became president. He also learned a lot more from his wife Eleanor. She mostly inspired people to remain optimistic about the future.
President Roosevelt wanted people to look ahead to the future with confidence. He knew life would get better for the majority of the country. So he gave the country and thus to us the following words…
“When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.” – Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Real life challenges for many
Environmental challenges like floods, droughts, forest fires, earthquakes, rising crime, racially motivated violence, racism, domestic violence, property thefts, cyber harassment, and other cyber crimes.
Also, crimes against personal property, schools and its children, crimes against women, sexual harassment, assaults, and more. Additionally, regional wars and conflicts seems to be everywhere.
These kind of conflicts have resulted in loss of life and property on a grand scale. These life challenges can be a real problem for those who observe the senselessness of it all.
988 Solution for life challenges
The rise in cases of depression and suicides among teens, seniors and young adults are now topping the list of challenges. The U.S. federal government has implemented a talk and/or text 988 hotline to help individuals who are facing these kind of challenges.
Anyone can reach out to qualified counselors by simply calling 988 or you can simply text 988 for help anytime, day or night, 24/7 from any phone in the United States.
Solution for opioid challenges
The United States has another challenge, opioid overdoses. In the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says the opioid epidemic (also known as the opioid crisis) is an extensive ongoing overuse of opioid medications, both from medical prescriptions and from illegal sources.
The great majority of Americans who use prescription opioids do not believe that they are misusing them. Then there is the illegal sources for opioids.
There were around 100,300 drug overdose deaths in the US in the 12-month period ending April 30, 2021. From 1999 to 2020, nearly 841,000 people died from drug overdoses, with prescription and illicit opioids being responsible for more than 500,000 of those deaths, up to 2019.
Those addicted to opioids, both legal and illegal, are increasingly young, white, and female, with 1.2 million women addicted compared to 0.9 million men in 2015.
Today, many of these dangerous drugs or opioids are being disguised as “candy” with bright colors targeting young and old, teens and young adults. When you perform an online search for “opioid crisis”, it becomes abundantly clear this is a real challenge for everyone, especially those in rural areas.
Naloxone, also known as Narcan, can be used as a rescue medication for opioid overdose or as a preventive measure for those wanting to stop using opiates.
Take-home naloxone overdose prevention kits have shown promise in areas exhibiting rapid increases in opioid overdoses and deaths due to the increased availability of fentanyl and other synthetic opioids.
Some states allow any adult to go to a local pharmacy and secure Narcan at no cost. Check local laws or contact a local pharmacy for information.
Local medical professionals are always available to help. Check local listings for available facilities or medical professionals.
Halloween presents many challenges
Halloween holiday is a celebration observed in many countries on 31 October. Halloween “candy” shared by community members on the night of Halloween has traditionally been a joyful time for children.
On October 31, 2022, America celebrates Halloween. Unlike any previous year, the coming Halloween is lined with hidden dangers. Parents are urged not to let their children accept “candy” from anyone they DO NOT personally know.
Additionally, if you want to allow your children to participate, you should personally escort them or at best, have a trusted adult escort them. Everyone should take personal responsibility for the safety of their family members, especially their children.
Law enforcement always advises parents to exercise caution. Remember, always inspect every piece of “candy” beforehand. Opioid deaths are real! DO NOT TAKE CHANCES!
Help is available for solutions
We’re reminded of the story of the man who went around complaining about not having shoes on his feet. Everyday, no matter who he meet he would complain about not having shoes. Then one day, as he was about to cross the street at the corner, he looked up and saw a man coming towards him who had no feet.
At that moment he realized that there is always someone who was in worse conditions than he was and had a problem that money could not fix. He stopped complaining, got a job, bought himself some shoes, and moved on. He took personal responsibility for solving his own problem.
This man, unknowingly, taught everyone a lesson. Work hard, earn money, use it wisely, and those funds can help solve many economic problems.
Individuals and families can be successful by simply looking for solutions from professionals who are trained in various disciplines designed to help anyone overcome life’s challenges one day at a time and applying those solutions.
Some solutions involve justice
Many solutions for people who are confronted with modern day challenges to their survival are available in the form of justice. Sometimes it may appear that the end isn’t coming or that justice is a long time coming.
However, there is one undeniable fact of nature that perpetrators of crime doesn’t understand… “You will reap what you sow!” Perpetrators of crime WILL be brought to justice. It’s only a matter of time.
Time is not on their side. One day, with little or no notice, JUSTICE, the Queen of All Virtues – will come knocking!
If the crimes rises to the level of being terrorize online or offline, we can be assured that justice is coming! They can not hide behind a keyboard forever. It may take time, but remember this – all participants WILL face justice!
To many it may seem that there is no solution for the personal challenges they face in the form of victimization. Solutions are available for victims. Sometimes the solution comes in the form of justice.
Keep in mind, if you are a victim of crime, sometimes the wheels of justice turns slowly. However, we must remember… all participants WILL face justice, in time!
Take personal responsibility for solutions
Again, by taking personal responsibility for finding solutions, that we know are always available, can help many people who are confronted with modern day challenges to survival.
Keep in mind, if the solution you want doesn’t come quickly, remember: “When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.” – Franklin Delano Roosevelt
