Memorial Day: America pays tribute to those who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces on this last Monday in May

WASHINGTON D.C. (AGN.News) – This weekend America pays tribute to the many men and women who paid the ultimate price in defense of a grateful nation. This generalized day of remembrance, by Americans everywhere on this last Monday in May, is a constant reminder of the sacrifices made by so many in support of America in the U.S. military.
On Monday, May 30, 2022, America will be honoring and/or mourning the military personnel who have given their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Their sacrifices has kept America free.
By extension, let’s remember the recent lives lost of the Uvalde children – all under 10 years old – and teachers at the Robb Elementary School.
President Joe Biden and First Lady, Dr Jill Biden, a teacher, arrived in Uvalde, Texas today to pay their respects to the victims at the Robb Elementary School memorial and to grieve with the community.
President and Dr Jill Biden are expected to attend a Catholic Mass in the community later today. The President will be meeting with the families of the victims, community leaders and first responders later today.
First Lady Jill Biden, herself a teacher, accompanied President Biden to a memorial at Robb Elementary School. They were seen comforting the school’s principal Mandy Gutierrez, beside a carpet of floral tributes for the teachers, and children.
Let’s remember the many grieving school teachers, the grieving parents, grandparents, and grandchildren of the victims of America’s mass killings in the last 10 years (and beyond) in cities across America. To date, in 2022, there have been over 200 mass shootings in America.
A mass shooting is defined as an incident in which four or more people are shot or killed, excluding the shooter. Many cities have experienced mass shootings, where the innocent have lost their lives to senseless violence. Let’s honor their memory and pray for their families on this Memorial Day.
Cities across America like Aurora, Boulder, Buffalo, D.C. Navy Yard, El Paso, Las Vegas, Orlando, Parkland, Pittsburgh, San Bernardino, Sandy Hook, Santa Fe, Sutherland Springs, Thousand Oaks, Uvalde, and Virginia Beach have had mass shootings in the last ten years.
Taft, Oklahoma, a city 45 miles southeast of Tulsa, joins this long list of mass shootings. Just after midnight on Sunday, May 29, 2022, a gunman killed a 39-year-old woman and injured a child (age 9) and seven others up to age 56 during Memorial Day weekend festival. The shooter turned himself in, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) said.
This weekend, as we reflect on those many sacrifices, lives of those who truly believed in the ideas of freedom and liberty provided all of us. Everyone is given added reasons to honor their memory by living up to those ideas for which they died. We are reminded of the oath taken by those who lived and died for all of us.
The Preamble of the United States Constitution maintains its value this Memorial Day and helps define America and what we all see as a goal for which they died and we should fight to preserve everyday.
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States (1861–1865), once said, “That some achieve great success, is proof to all that others can achieve it as well.” The fact that many have given full support for these GREAT words is living proof that President Abraham Lincoln was right.
So, as we attend cookouts, go to the beach, visit relatives, travel across this great land, spend time with family and friends, pray for all Americans to be united not divided, and for America to really become the United States of America – an idea for which so many died, becomes an ultimate goal that can eventually be reached.
Since 1971, when Congress standardized the holiday as “Memorial Day” and changed its observance to the last Monday in May, we honor our many family members and friends lost in defense of America at home and abroad. God Bless America!
