FAIRFAX, Va. (AGN.News) – The jury favored Depp and said Heard’s statements about her marriage were “false” and she acted with “actual malice”. Depp was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages.
The Fairfax jurors also found that Depp defamed Heard – through his attorney – and awarded her $2 million. Heard said she had suffered from numerous physical assaults from Depp, including disturbing allegations of sexual assault.
But it was Heard’s accusations that were mocked online, where she was accused of fabricating her testimony and fake tears. She made false accusations against Depp. One viewer said, “It was the acting performance of a lifetime”.
Depp says in his own statement: “The jury gave me my life back. I am truly humbled”. Depp’s attorney, Camille Vasquez, has thanked the jury and said the verdict confirms that “the claims against Johnny Depp are defamatory and unsupported by any evidence”.
Looking at this case at first, the Depp-Heard case was a defamation trial. But in reality, the six weeks of testimony centered largely on graphic and upsetting allegations of emotional, verbal and physical abuse.
“My decision to pursue this case, knowing very well the height of the legal hurdles that I would be facing and the inevitable, worldwide spectacle into my life, was only made after considerable thought”, Depp said.
“From the very beginning, the goal of bringing this case was to reveal the truth, regardless of the outcome.” – Johnny Depp
“The best is yet to come and a new chapter has finally begun. “Veritas numquam perit.” Depp continued, “Truth never perishes.”
Many of the online comments about the case had one thing in common, Depp was not “perfect” in this drama. But he was not the “monster” Heard tried to portray him as. Some said, Amber Heard was “an out of control woman who tried to give the acting performance of a lifetime, but the jury saw through her story.”
Heard said she had suffered from numerous physical assaults from Depp, including disturbing allegations of sexual assault.
Heard’s accusations were mocked online, where she was accused of fabricating her testimony as her fake tears were on full display. Some said, Amber Heard “pulled out the sexual assault card in another failed effort to deceive the jury”.
Depp told jurors his ex-wife had demeaned and bullied him, and had a “need for violence”.
Depp’s version were found to be more believable by the jury, who awarded him $15 million. Now, many are pointing to his statement, “Truth never perishes.”
This verdict brings into question whether “real” victims should be afraid to come forward. The obvious answer is no. “Victims of domestic violence should seek help to address the violence. But never fabricate the story in an effort to deceive the jury or the police, they’ll see right through it and then it backfires.” – Anonymous commenter
Depp: ‘My life changed in the blink of an eye’.
Johnny Depp has released a statement following the jury’s verdict:
“Six years ago, my life, the life of my children, the lives of those closest to me, and also, the lives of the people who for many, many years have supported and believed in me were forever changed.
“All in the blink of an eye.”
The jury favored Depp and said Heard’s statements about her marriage were “false” and she acted with “actual malice”.
In the end, Johnny Depp wins libel case against ex-wife, Amber Heard. Like Depp said, “Truth never perishes.”
