Hyundai Motor Group Executives with Georgia Announces it Commitment to Building Electric Vehicles near Savannah Georgia

ELLABELL, GEORGIA (AGN.News) – Hyundai Motor Group confirms it plans to open an electric vehicle plant on nearly 3,000 acres along I-16 in Bryan County in an announcement ceremony.
Hyundai Motor Group includes the Hyundai, Kia and Genesis brands. The company confirms it will produce a “wide range” of electric models. The EV technology door of the future with tech jobs, electric vehicles and battery production will create thousands of jobs.
The state of Georgia and Gov. Brian Kemp confirmed the states support for the production of electric vehicles (EV) in the state. Hyundai officials said they will break ground in 2023 and start production in 2025 with capacity for 300,000 EVs a year and will employ 8,100 workers.
“I have the privilege, for the second time in the same fiscal year, to welcome the largest economic development project in the state’s history,” Kemp said at Friday’s ceremony with Hyundai executives.
The Bryan County factory is part of Hyundai’s plan to invest $7.4 billion in the U.S. by 2025 to expand EVs and “smart mobility” services.
“This high-tech EV plant represents the future of our business,” said Jae Hoon Chang, Hyundai Motor’s president and CEO. Hyundai chief executive Eusiun Chung said his company would spend another $5 billion on artificial intelligence for autonomous vehicles and other technologies.
This announcement will be made in conjunction with President Biden’s Asian trip that began today (May 20-24, 2022). President Joe Biden who is traveling to South Korea, and later to Japan, will be meeting with Hyundai officials in Seoul with a focus on economic cooperation, the production of electric vehicles and creation of green jobs in the U.S. The President wants to electrify the federal fleet of cars and trucks.
Ellabell, Georgia is the future home to this Hyundai electric vehicle manufacturing plant and the many jobs it will bring. This Hyundai plant will employ thousands of technical school graduates and local tech workers.
Hyundai Motors has deep ties to Georgia. In 2006, Kia subsidiary announced its first U.S. plant in West Point. In 2006, West Point, Georgia became home to South Korean automaker, Kia. “We need to expand more in the global market in order to escape foreign exchange risks,” said Choi Soon-Chul, then executive vice president. This plant created over 2,700 jobs.
Ellabell, Georgia, 7 miles east of Pembroke and 23 miles west of Savannah is the future of Ellabell’s economic development community and EV and battery production in Bryan County by Hyundai Motor Group.
This 2,284-acre Ellabell property along I-16 is an ideal location for EV production because of the flat terrain, free of rocky soil, and it enjoys direct connections by road and rail to the ports of Savannah and Brunswick.
Hyundai Motor Group has deep ties to Georgia. Kia announced its first U.S. plant in West Point in 2006. This will be Hyundai Motor Group’s second Georgia facility near Ellabell in Bryan County. This new facility along I-16 will integrate EV production with Georgia’s global connections via Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and two seaports in Savannah and Brunswick.
Georgia and many other states along with the federal government are doing their part to advance the production of electric cars, trucks and batteries. The production of EV will reduce greenhouse gases.
In addition to electric vehicle production plants, the added benefits for communities are local jobs. Hyundai committed to $1 billion in investments from its supplier network, which could lead to thousands of additional jobs.
Rivian plans a $5 billion electric vehicle (EV) and battery factory along I-20 between Social Circle and Rutledge where it will employ 7,500. Rivian has said it hopes to begin production of batteries and its electric trucks, SUVs and delivery vans in 2024 near the town of Rutledge.
These plants will require a network of suppliers, skilled tech workers, electric power, food services, healthcare facilities, construction teams, construction materials, uniforms, furniture, IT services and much more. There is an estimated 50,000 good paying jobs generated from these facilities by 2026.
