BALI, Indonesia (AGN.News) – A United Nations report indicates the world population is on the rise. G-20 nations have been informed of a population milestone being reached on Tuesday, 15 November 2022. The global community will reach 8 million people.
With 8 million people on Earth, there’s need for solutions to global issues and for all nations to promote international cooperation for the survival of everyone.
America and China shows leadership
U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping met on the sidelines G-20 Summit meeting in Bali, Indonesia. Talks between them seeks to resolve global issues and promote international cooperation.
President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed issues relating to the war in Ukraine, North Korea, climate change, and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Agreement to meet on Climate change
Climate change, also called global warming, was discussed between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Joe Biden.
The U.S. and China are the number one and the number two climate polluters. As such, both countries have agreed to resume talks on climate change. Talks on the subject were suspended after House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan earlier this year.
Resuming those talks was a major breakthrough. Both countries demonstrated their total commitment to addressing climate change. Indisputable evidence exists reflecting its effect on global communities.
The increasing droughts, failing crops, rivers and lakes drying up, massive storms and hurricanes are visible proof of climate change. Due to the lack of rainfall, many communities have no access to clean water.
Dirty-burning coal has been a major polluter of the atmosphere. Arriving at an agreement reducing greenhouse gases including reducing pollution caused by coal will have a positive effect on reducing the damage caused by global warming.
Island nations are in danger
Many island nations are in danger due to the rise of sea waters from North and South Pole melting ice. One nation is the Republic of Seychelles. Seychelles is an archipelagic country consisting of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean at the eastern edge of the Somali Sea.
Seychelles’s capital and largest city, Victoria, is 1,500 kilometres (800 nautical miles) east of mainland Africa. Many inhabitants of Seychelles see the water rising and are realizing some islands are slowly disappearing.
Summit meeting of G-20 Countries
The nations that make up the “group of 20” are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the UK and the US.
The G-20 nations are having discussions between themselves and as a group addressing many issues complicating international cooperation and relations involving the “group of 20”.
Global food security guarantee
Climate change endangers global food security. The reduction of water resources also reduces crop production. The cost of food continues to rise around the world is directly connected to global warming.
Hunger and disease are a direct result of climate change in many countries, especially in Africa. The G-20 nations can work together to address a collective guaranteed of food security.
Global conflict resolutions
G-20 nations are concerned with the rise of conflicts. President Biden commented on the need for competition between the US and China. Competition without conflicts are in the best interest of both nations.
G-20 on the war in Ukraine
A major challenge for G-20 nations is the war in Ukraine. Member nations have agreed the war in Ukraine has rocked the very foundations of a stable international order.
Many G-20 leaders, including British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, have spoken out against the war in Ukraine, damage to the economies and food security of many nations.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak addressed the war in Ukraine. Mr Sunak wrote on Telegram: “We will not let our economic future be held hostage by the actions of a rogue state – and nor will our allies.”
On the Ukrainians taking back Kherson, Mr Sunak said, “Last week, we saw the Ukrainian flag raised once again over Kherson… It is an historic milestone in Ukraine’s fight to take back what’s theirs.”
“They are standing up for fundamental principles that matter to us all – the principles of sovereignty and self-determination, which are the very foundations of a stable international order.
“But we know the Ukrainian people are still suffering terribly under the continued Russian bombardment and prolonged power blackouts in near-freezing temperatures.
“That’s why when I spoke to Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, last Thursday, I made clear that Britain will never back down when it comes to supporting the Ukrainian people in the face of this brutality.”
G-20 nations, meeting in Bali are in a unique position to promote cooperation between nations on trade and energy security.
Mr Sunak says its important to “open up global trade” and “providing honest, reliable finance to help developing countries grow sustainably”.
