PHOENIX (AGN.News) – The 2022 Arizona Election: Katie Hobbs wins Arizona governor’s race, flipping the state for Democrats.
Senator Mark Kelley wins a full term in the United States Senate and Adrian Fontes becomes the next Secretary of State. All three wins were history making. Many down ballot races were also historic in nature.
Katie Hobbs, as Arizona’s secretary of state, was a staunch defender of the results of the 2020 election of Joe Biden as president. A recount of the 2020 election proved she was right.
Hobbs won the race for governor according to the Associated Press last night, after a one and a half year of campaigning in a very challenging election cycle.
Midterm election makes history
The 2022 midterm national election was a history making event, especially for Arizona. This election has brought together men and women who are on a positive trajectory to improve the lives of all Arizonans.
The lengthy recount of the disputed 2020 Arizona election for president brought a lot of attention to Arizona’s 2022 midterm election.
Governor-elect Katie Hobbs held her victory rally and acceptance speech today. She laid out many issues facing the state.
Hobbs’ invitation to Arizonans
The border crises, economy, safer streets, the education of children, and the reproductive rights of women are just a few of the issues facing Arizona.
She invited all Arizonans to join her in being united, working together, and defending democracy going forward. “We must work together to solve urgent problems.”
“We chose democracy. The system of government that made America the best and most prosperous country in the history of the world.”- Governor-Elect Katie Hobbs
She said, “Today is a good day for Arizona and it’s a good day for democracy.”
“I was born and raised in Arizona. I know what it’s like to grow up in a working class family just trying to make ends meet. I know what it’s like to have to pick up a second job to provide for your family.”
In view of the issues Arizona families are facing, she stressed the need to “get the job done”.
She added, “I will do everything in my power to get the job done for you and your family even under difficult circumstances.”
Hobbs says investing in public schools, supporting reproductive freedom, educating children for the jobs of the future,” are part of her priorities.
Why the losers should concede?
Generally, losing candidates concede their loss and move on. In a polarized election cycle some losing candidates chose to mount an election-denier campaign and fight the results as in the Arizona 2020 audit, keeping the country divided with unproven conspiracy theories.
“Kari Lake has lost the race in my opinion. There’s no way for her to have a pathway,” former Gov. Jan Brewer, a conservative Republican, said in an interview Tuesday. “If I was in that position, I probably would concede. Our democracy is so important to what our country and state stands for. We vote people in and we vote people out.”
Local candidates’ winning message
Other establishment Republicans sent a similar unifying signal Tuesday by congratulating Katie Hobbs, the Democratic secretary of state, on her victory in the race. Gov. Doug Ducey, a Republican who is term-limited, called Hobbs on Monday morning. Brewer said she was planning to call her later Tuesday per Yahoo News.
As former Governor Jan Brewer said, “Our democracy is so important to what our country and state stands for…”
An interview with a Republican voter revealed this undeniable fact, “People lose elections all of the time. Later, they send a more uniting message where peoples’ needs are addressed, a message of hope for a better future for their families, and win the next election.”
Democracy: The real midterm issue!
According to many news organizations’ analysis, 44% of voters “say the future of democracy was their primary consideration.” This is almost as many as those listing inflation as their top issue.
This is a very clear message that’s well received by many candidates whose own messaging fell short of this reality. People care about the value of democracy, as the 2022 midterm clearly shows.
While many advisors and fellow Democrats were focusing on other issues, President Biden kept stressing the issue of democracy as the nations number one concern in the midterm election. Again, he was right as many Republicans now confirm.
Speaking to the state legislature, Hobbs said, “We must work together to solve our urgent problems… and deliver for the people of Arizona.”
Speaking to the people of Arizona, she said she will “work hard for you.”
As she concluded her victory rally, Hobbs said, “Let’s roll up our sleeves and let’s get to work!”
