NEWARK, NEW JERSEY – Flight trackers just reported and EL AL flight leaving Newark at 8 p.m. on Thursday night (local time) on its way to Israel from Newark International Airport early Friday morning (Israel’s time) made an emergency landing at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
An emergency ‘MAYDAY’ was declared after smoke entered the cabin. After dumping fuel, the jetliner was able to make a safe, emergency landing, according to sources.
This route to Israel is a popular one for religious Jews and others who want to return to Israel for Shabbat or the Sabbath.
The Shabbat begins just before sunset on Friday evening until three stars appear in the sky Saturday night.
