HONG KONG (AGN News) – The CDC is closely monitoring the recent outbreak of a newly discovered (2019) respiratory disease called coronavirus. On February 11, 2020 the World Health Organization announce the official name of this respiratory disease as COVID-19 (first called 2019-nCoV) or Coronavirus Disease 2019.
There are now confirmed cases of COVID-19 in more than 28 countries. This is a rapidly spreading respiratory disease that has required testing of people entering various countries including the United States from areas known to have COVID-19 infections.
There is now a suspension of entry as immigrants and non-immigrants of persons who pose a risk of transmitting of COVID-19 in the US. 340 US passengers aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship have been flown to military bases for a 14 day quarantine period.
In China, the government, reported 70,548 cases of COVID-19. It also said it may postpone its annual congress in March due to the outbreak. An additional 1,200 military doctors and nurses arrived in Wuhan to help the now overwhelmed health care system.
In Japan, the government confirmed a total of 518 cases including those on the cruise ship (now 454) Of the COVID-19 cases aboard the Diamond Princess many have been transported to their home countries.
Australia, Canada, Hong Kong and Italy are making plans to bring home their citizens aboard the Diamond Princess. Taiwan has reported its first confirmed death from COVID-19.
