HONG KONG, CHINA – The 2019 Novel Coronavirus also called 2019-nCOV, is spreading fast globally as people travel and vacation in other countries. The 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCOV), which originated in Wuhan City, China, has now infected over 6,000 people globally. A pattern of confirmed death from the coronavirus is now emerging. As of today, it has been reported that roughly 2% of those infected has died, or around 120.
That low number makes some people feel that it is like have a common cold or flu. However, the coronavirus needs a “host to survive” or to spread. This is what make it so dangerous. It’s very nature can allow it to spread undetected through the global population.
People will simply go about their normal life infecting more and more people as they travel at home or abroad. This is called a “sweet spot”, spreading the virus far and wide with little or no symptoms. Once the coronavirus finds unsuspecting “host” it will quietly spread undetected with no obvious symptoms for up to 10 days and then it will “strike” the “host” or carrier.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control or CDC, tens of thousands of people die each year from the flu. Every year 10 to 50 million people in the US get the flu. The flu is a mild-mannered serial killer. The coronavirus is developing into a mild-mannered serial killer, killing 2% of those who get infected. If 50 million people get infected with the coronavirus it will kill over 1 million people in the US alone.
This statistic makes the coronavirus a virus on par with the Spanish Flu of January 1918 to December 1920. This pandemic, the H1N1 influenza virus infected over 500 million people worldwide. The death toll from the H1N1 flu was an estimated 50 to 100 million people worldwide, even remote islands of the pacific. This “serial killer” pandemic killed three to five percent of the world population at the time. The geographical origin remains unknown.
The coronavirus is a global health threat to everyone everywhere. The coronavirus is unique in that health officials know where it began and are working day and night to contain it.
Paying special attention to personal and community hygiene, washing hands, cleaning hard surfaces, disinfecting public areas and washing hands immediately when it is expected socially to greet someone with a handshake. Some airlines have removed hot meals, pillows, and blankets from flights in an effort to contain the virus.
There are now over 6,000 confirmed coronavirus cases worldwide. People develop pneumonia like symptoms including fever, without a clear cause, is a first sign of coronavirus. It’s mostly in China, the coronavirus is spreading quickly and fast globally as people travel internationally. More confirmed cases in Beijing, Shanghai, and other major cities in China.
Cruise ships, some airlines, and tour groups have cancelled trips to China. Hong Kong has banned entry of Chinese citizens from Hubei province where Wuhan is located. Governments from Africa, Europe, Austrailia have charthered flights to bring their citizens home.
The World Health Organization had decided against declaring the outbreak a global health emergency for now is reconsidering that decision as the coronavirus spreads. WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “WHO is following this outbreak every minute of every day.”
