China’s Coronavirus Lockdowns Expanded to 25 Million

WUHAN, CHINA – Wuhan is the epicenter of the 2019 and 2020 outbreak of novel coronavirus also called … 2019-nCoV. The coronavirus outbreak has grown in size and scope with new cases being reported. Wuhan’s public transportation has been shut down. People are advised not to enter or leave the city of 11 million.
The cities of Huanggang, Ezhou, Chibi, Jingmen, Xiantao, and Zhijiang, adjacent to Wuhan in Hubei province, will also be placed under a similar quarantine starting today, 24 January 2020 onward. Buses, planes, subways, and ferries were shut down today in the area of some 25 million people and other cities, a shutdown measure without precedent in its size and scale.
China is building a hospital with 1,000 beds on a 25,000 square-meter lot to be completed on February 3rd, according to local authorities.
These measures are officially taken by the government in an effort to contain the coronavirus that has sickened over 850 and killed over 26 as of this report. It has been confirmed and there is evidence of human-to-human transmission. Extensive testing has revealed over 830 confirmed cases and rising, some of whom are healthcare workers.
The Nation Health Commission has taken additional steps. Most of the victims have been in and around Wuhan. Some of the victims are scattered around China. Large gatherings in Beijing have been cancelled indefinitely. In other countries health professionals are taking precautions to protect the public.
The World Health Organization has decided against declaring the outbreak a global emergency for now. WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “WHO is following this outbreak every minute of every day.”
