PHOENIX (AGN.News) – The 2022 Election held on November 8, 2022 confirms the winners are for Governor: Katie Hobbs, for Attorney General: Kris Mayes, for Secretary of State: Adrian Fontes, for United States Senate: Mark Kelley.
Governor-Elect is Katie Hobbs
Democrat Kathleen Marie Hobbs (53) is an Arizona politician and social worker who is the governor-elect of Arizona, having been elected on November 8, 2022.
Katie Hobbs served as the 21st secretary of state of Arizona since 2019. Hobbs served in the Arizona Senate from 2013 to 2019 and in the Arizona House of Representatives from 2011 to 2013.
She was born and raised in Arizona. Hobbs holds several degrees in social work. One from Northern Arizona University and another from Arizona State University. She specialized in domestic violence and worked for one of the nation’s largest domestic violence centers.
Katie Hobbs was inspired to run
She was inspired to run for office by her involvement with Emerge Arizona. Hobbs decided to run for and won every election she entered. She was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 2010 and to the Arizona Senate in 2012.
She served as Arizona Senate minority leader from 2015 to 2019 and was elected secretary of state of Arizona in 2018. Hobbs was inspired and motivated to help all Arizonans.
Hobbs’ invitation to all Arizonans
The border crises, economy, safer streets, the education of children, and the reproductive rights of women are just a few of the issues facing Arizona. She vowed to address these issues as governor.
After winning the 2022 election, Hobbs invited all Arizonans to join her in being united, working together, and defending democracy going forward.
As Arizona Governor-Elect, Hobbs said, “We must work together to solve urgent problems.”

Katie Hobbs won the 2022 election
Hobbs won the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial election, defeating Republican nominee Kari Lake, the former news anchor by just over 17,000 votes or with 50.3% of the vote to Lakes’ 49.65% of the vote.
Katie Hobbs is set to become Arizona’s fifth female governor on January 5, 2023. Hobbs said after her November 8th win, “Let’s get to work!”
Fontes has unique life experiences
Democrat Adrian Fontes (52) is an Arizona politician, election official, veteran, and attorney. As a member of the Democratic Party, he is the Secretary of State-elect of Arizona.
Fontes was elected on November 8, 2022 and will be sworn in on January 5, 2023. Fontes previously served as the Maricopa County Recorder from 2017 to 2021.
Fontes was raised in the southern Arizona city of Nogales, Arizona. His family has lived in southern Arizona for more than 300 years, well before Arizona became a state or territory.
Fontes served in the United States Marine Corps from 1992 to 1996, where he taught a marksmanship course.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in Communications from Arizona State University in 1998. When he returned, he pursued a Juris Doctor degree (J.D. or JD), also known as Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Denver located in Denver, Colorado.
Fontes has served as a prosecutor with the Denver District Attorney’s Office, Maricopa County Attorney’s Office and the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, and as an attorney in private practice.
Adrian Fontes won the 2022 election
After winning the state primary vote, Fontes faced Republican party nominee, Arizona Representative Mark Finchem in the general election.
Adrian Fontes defeated Mark Finchem in the November 8, 2022 Arizona general election with 52.4% of the vote to 47.6% for Finchem. Adrian Fontes won by 120,207 votes.
Mayes’ legal experiences as a lawyer
Democrat Kristin Kay Mayes (51) is an American reporter, lawyer, and politician who is the Arizona Attorney General-elect.
Kris Mayes previously served as Professor of Practice at Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law and Chair of the Arizona Corporation Commission.
Mayes worked as a general assignment reporter for the Phoenix Gazette, and later as a political reporter for The Arizona Republic, covering the Arizona State Legislature. Mayes then attended graduate school at Columbia University in New York, where she earned a Master of Public Administration (MPA).
Following graduate school, Mayes returned to The Arizona Republic, where she was assigned to cover the 2000 presidential campaigns of Senator John McCain, former Vice President Dan Quayle, publisher Steve Forbes and Governor George W. Bush.
After the presidential campaign, Mayes attended Arizona State University College of Law and graduated magna cum laude. At Arizona State University, in Tempe, Arizona she finished with both a BA and a JD degree.
Kris Mayes won the 2022 election
As a member of the Democratic Party, Mayes was elected on November 8, 2022, defeating Republican Abraham Hamadeh by a margin of just 280 votes. After a mandatory recount, Mayes was confirmed as the winner. Her win made this one of the closest elections in the state’s history.
The recount of the November 8, 2022 election results were announced by Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Timothy Thomason in court on Thursday, December 29, 2022. He announced the results.
Kris Mayes had 1,254,809 votes to Hamadeh’s 1,254,529 votes. Mayes won by 280 votes and will be sworn in on January 5, 2023.
Attorney General-Elect Kris Mayes’ promise
Kris Mayes promised, throughout her campaign, to support the reproductive rights of the women of Arizona and to protect voting rights. Mayes vowed not to prosecute abortion ban violations.
Additionally, Mayes stressed, as Attorney General, she would protect the rights of all qualified voters in Arizona to participate freely in every election and would pursue and prosecute anyone who threatens election workers.
Mark Kelley shows experience counts
Democrat Mark Edward Kelly (58) is an American politician, former astronaut, and United States Navy captain who has served as the junior United States Senator from Arizona since 2020.
Kelly is a member of the Democratic Party. He was elected in the special election held following the death of Senator John McCain in 2018, defeating incumbent Republican Martha McSally.
Kelly has many unique experiences. He flew combat missions during the Gulf War as a naval aviator and later being selected as a NASA Space Shuttle pilot in 1996.
He flew his first space mission in 2001 as pilot of STS-108, piloted STS-121 in 2006, and commanded STS-124 in 2008 and STS-134 in 2011, the final mission of Space Shuttle Endeavour.
His identical twin, Scott Kelly, is also a retired astronaut; they are the only siblings to have both traveled into orbit.
Senator Mark Kelly re-elected in 2022
Kelly announced his candidacy for Arizona’s Class 3 U.S. Senate seat in the 2020 special election on February 12, 2019.
He won the Democratic primary on August 4, 2020, and defeated incumbent Republican Martha McSally in the November 3, 2020, general election, becoming the first Democrat to win this seat since 1962.
As a candidate in 2020, Kelly said he was “pro-choice” and was endorsed by Planned Parenthood. He supports codifying Roe v. Wade into federal law. He has said that late-stage abortions should be legally protected.
Senator Mark Kelly was sworn in on December 2, 2020. As he completed the special election, Kelly ran for the full term on November 8, 2022.
In this 2022 midterm election, Kelly was elected to a full term in the United States Senate with 51.39% of the vote, defeating Republican challenger Blake Masters by 125,722 votes or 46.51%.

These wins by democrats during this midterm cycle against candidates who endorsed the promoted election denialism of a former U.S. president in a traditionally red state shows a major shift from Republicans to Democrats to lead Arizona state government starting in January 2023.
Commenting on the results of her election, Kris Mayes said, “I will say once again that I’m thankful to everyone who took their time to vote, and democracy is truly a team sport.”
“I am excited to get to work as your next Attorney General and vow to be your Lawyer for the People. Onward…” she added.
Judge Thomason: Other recount results
State Superintendent of Public Instruction was won by Republican Tom Horne. The only seat for the state legislature needing a recount was won by Republican Liz Harris. She won House District 13 seat.
