Currently, our “Americans Are United” series is addressing ‘Builders of the Homeland’ Part 1-7. This series or edition is highlighting United States governors.
Today, we introduce Gov. Katie Hobbs of Arizona and Gov. Kathy Hochul of New York State. Both were sworn into office earlier this month.
Katie Hobbs: “Let’s get to work”
Kathleen Marie Hobbs (53), also known as Katie Hobbs, is an Arizona politician and former social worker serving as the 24th governor of Arizona since January 2, 2023.
Katie Hobbs, as Arizona’s newly inaugurated governor, has set the example for Arizonans by immediately going to work on behalf of the people of Arizona. Just as she said on the campaign trail, “Let’s get to work”.
Hobbs became the fifth female governor of Arizona on November 8, 2022 in a contested election in which she won by 17,000 votes. Her win for Arizona’s governor sets a record for the most female governors in any one state in American history.
Gov. Hobbs was sworn into office on Monday, January 2, 2023 in a private ceremony. On Thursday January 5, 2023, a public ceremony was held at the state Capital in Phoenix.
Governor Hobbs’ leadership was on full display on Friday, January 20, 2023 when she addressed the migrant crisis facing border communities.
“It’s something that provides support to those local communities,” Hobbs told reporters, referring to border communities that are strained by the influx of migrants. “If we’re spending money to bus people, why not just get them to their final destination?”
Per the Governor’s office, migrants will be flown to their final destination where sponsors are waiting to help them comply with federal immigration rules and guidelines.
Several community leaders have visited the governor to address concerns they have and a desire to support the newly-inaugurated governor’ effort to succeed as Arizona’s chief executive. Governor Hobbs is a “Governor for Everyone”, as she takes office.
Kathy Hochul Recognizes local heroes
Kathleen Hochul (64), also known as Kathy Hochul, is a New York state politician serving as the 57th governor of New York since August 24, 2021 following the resignation of the previous governor. She won re-election on November 8, 2022 to serve a full-term as New York governor.
Hochul was inaugurated to her first full term as governor on January 1, 2023.
Today, Saturday, January 21, 2021, Gov. Kathy Hochul recognizes ‘ordinary’ heroes from blizzard during Buffalo State visit. Gov. Hochul gave each one a medal of public service for their community support that saved lives.
Sha’Kyra Aughtry, who rescued a half-frozen man with developmental disabilities from the blizzard. She found him outside her house on the morning of Christmas Eve as the worst blizzard in Buffalo’s history raged outside. Her quick action saved his life. She felt joy when she accepted a medal from Gov. Kathy Hochul.
Jay Withey Jr., who broke into a school to find shelter and food for 24 stranded motorists during the blizzard, saved lives.
Mohammed Osman, who led a 44-person Bangladeshi rescue team to transport nearly 500 people from their homes to warming shelters during the blizzard, saved lives.
In addition to these heroic New Yorkers, there were a few dozen “everyday Buffalonians” – including leaders of snowmobile clubs, managers of department stores and pizzeria owners – were given public service medals by Gov. Hochul.
During the 2022 midterm election on November 8, 2022, democracy was on full display. Both Governor Hobbs and Governor Hochul won their respective races.
Democracy, liberty and unity prevailed as these two governors were sworn into office as chief executives. Now, in their role as state governors, they’re at work for the people in their states.
The United States Governors of Arizona and New York State are ‘Builders of the Homeland’ who’re promoting democracy and liberty with unity of purpose as well as good governance.
