WASHINGTON (AGN.News) – The United States of America is a nation of immigrants from provinces, states, nations, and communities all over the world – working together – committed to living up to its name.
The Founding Fathers of America knew it would not be an easy task to unify a population from so many places on Earth, with so many customs, and backgrounds.
They understood the stakes and they were very high stakes. They also knew the great tasks and challenges that existed in this new country. They knew it would not be an easy task to unify people.
However, 248 years ago, on July 4, 1776, the people celebrated the birth of a new nation “conceived in liberty” where “all men are created equal” – called the United States of America.
Founders knew great tasks were ahead
The initial task was to secure a Constitution that would guide their every step towards becoming a “more perfect union” of people from everywhere. So, they debated, discussed, and finally created the Constitution of the United States of America.
That was no easy task but they finally came together and wrote the supreme law of the United States of America on September 17, 1787. They presented it on September 28, 1787, ratified it on June 21, 1788.
Constitution of the United States of America
They delivered the Constitution of the United States of America to the colonies and then to the world. It became effective on March 4, 1789.
The new U.S. Constitution created three branches of government; The Executive branch, the President; The Legislative Branch, bicameral (two house) Congress; The Judicial Branch, The Supreme Court with its Circuits and Districts.
A federal district was created as the home of the three branches of government.
The White House, the President; the U.S. Capital for Congress; and the Supreme Court for the judiciary; are headquartered in Washington D.C.
The Constitution and the 27 Amendments
The Constitution would be amended several times to address the needs of a growing nation. In fact, the Constitution has a total of 27 Amendments.
The Constitution’s first ten amendments, known as the Bill of Rights, offer specific protections of individual liberty and justice and place restrictions on the powers of government within the U.S. states and territories.
The majority of the other 17 amendments expanded individual civil rights protections. Other amendments address issues related to federal authority or modify government processes and procedures.
The Constitution of the United States is the oldest and longest standing written and codified national constitution in force in the world today and meets the needs of a growing population.
Immigrants came from every place on Earth
The United States of America became a nation of immigrants. They came from Europe; They came from Asia; They came from the islands of the sea; They came from Africa; They came from every corner of the Earth. They came because America’s system of governance is the best on Earth.
These newly-minted citizens and immigrants came and established communities of people with similar backgrounds. People gravitated towards people with like customs.
All across this great nation are African communities, Asian communities, European communities, South American communities, Caribbean communities, Pacific Islander communities, and so on. All of these communities have learned, over time, that we are all Americans no matter where we came from.
America’s unity makes it great nation!
The warm-hearted greeting newcomers receive from their new neighbors quickly brings them together. Community events, block parties, community picnics, music festivals, concerts, area tours, hiking trails, and many more events are clear examples of what life in America is really all about.
When tragedy strikes a community, Americans rally around the victims and show their support.
When natural disasters involving crops, earthquakes, hurricanes, forest fires, extreme heat, and floods happen, Americans help one another.
When food shortages, crimes against people and property, gun violence, mass shootings, and hunger strikes a community, Americans come to the rescue and aid one another.
Even though many people in the community may never have personally met the victims, they harness the values we all hold dear. We support one another during tragedy no matter where their ancestral homes may have been.
The population would increase in size
The Founding Fathers knew, in all their wisdom, that the nation would grow in population with people from overseas coming to this great land of opportunity.
When penman, Jacob Shallus, hand wrote the original copy of the United States Constitution (now located in the National Archives in Washington) on five pages of parchment, he probably knew the power of the text he was writing and the impact it would have on a growing nation.
We live in very challenging times!
As the nation has grown, so has the issues it now faces. Demands placed on many local and state governments continue to rise. Rights and freedoms are up for debate at every level of society. Challenges to national authority are unprecedented.
While many issues are being addressed, there are many others that have no quick solutions. Over time, many of these important issues within the country will eventually be resolved.
The unity of the population, while being challenged, remains rock-solid. Why? Because people understand the ‘art of compromise’ – not make personal demands to benefit themselves without honoring the rights of others.
Just as the Founding Fathers had to compromise, not make personal demands to benefit themselves, but deliver the Constitution of the United States to the benefit the nation as a whole.
The Founders understood the diversity of the population then and they knew it would eventually change. Unlike the burger joint, everyone can not have it their way.
The beneficiaries of this document understand the value of the ‘art of compromise’ so the nation prospers. One’s personal likes and dislikes always takes a back seat to what benefits the population as a whole.
Preamble to the United States Constitution
The preamble was mainly written by Founding Father Gouverneur Morris, a Pennsylvania delegate to the 1787 Constitutional Convention held at Independence Hall in Philadelphia.
U.S. Courts have referred to it as reliable evidence of the Founding Fathers’ intentions regarding the Constitution’s meaning and what they hoped the Constitution would achieve.
Morris provided a summary of the Constitution’s six goals when he wrote the Preamble. In the ‘Preamble’ he clearly outlined and confirmed the intent, purpose and benefits of the Constitution when it says:
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
A great nation of united immigrants
As a nation of immigrants from provinces, states, nations, cities and communities all over the world, not everyone wants the same thing. Americans continue to work together to make this “a more perfect union” despite our differences.
From the world over, immigrants came to this great country, a model republic for all to see and value. Look around, observe the population, and you will see and understand it is not a perfect union occupied by perfect people.
However, in order to form a more perfect union, the Founding Fathers did “ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America”.
We all must comply with the laws and regulations in every community, both city, state, and federal. Everyone should be living up to its name – the United States of America.
Adhering to the laws and Amendments contained in this Constitution is required of everyone and will, over time, create a more perfect union where all people, including newly arriving immigrants, will be joining generations of immigrants who have assimilated into a united community of cities..
The citizens of this great country are committed to living up to its creed and its glorious name, the United States of America.
