WASHINGTON (AGN.News) – The Alphabet Company had a very humble beginning. To become a global media company in e-commerce, education, and entertainment required a lot of time and effort from all involved.
Ordinary people can become leaders
The work of building a community of cities and neighborhoods all begins with an idea. The Founding Fathers of the United States, all 152 plus, were ordinary citizens from various backgrounds. Some were writers, others were storekeepers, while others were in government service.
Some among them were as young as 25 and others were as old as 55 in 1776 when they signed the Declaration of Independence establishing what would become a new nation on the world scene.
They proved that someone could become a part of something bigger than themselves. Their effort showed the value of creating something much bigger than they could ever imagine.
This was not just an idea it was a movement. This movement was not an easy-one-and-done process. It was a movement that would be opposed by the power of Great Britain, their home country and others within the colonies.
For eight long years (1775-1783) these Founders had to fight for their right to be independent from foreign domination. The English sent their most admired General, Charles Edward Cornwallis V, 1st Marquess Cornwallis (31 December 1738 – 5 October 1805).
He surrendered his army in 1781 to a combined American and French force at the siege of Yorktown. He served in the British military from 1757-1805. This Cambridge educated General would go on to spend many more years in the service of his homeland.
Likewise, many of the Founders would continue in the service of their newly founded nation, the United States, for many more years. Some would become presidents like General George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison who is called “The Father of the Constitution”.
Others like Benjamin Franklin whose service to the country is too numerous to count, and Alexander Hamilton who was the first U.S. Secretary of the Treasury.
The humble beginning of The Alphabet Company
Like many companies, The Alphabet Company had a very humble beginning in a modest home in the southeast United States. In the summer of 1982, a group of people born into a family of farmers, were having a family gathering where home cooking was on the menu.
Among this group were individuals with a host of names that had every single alphabet as the first letter of the names. Like Ann, Bobby, Cynthia, David, Edward, and so on.
Then there were others who were what was often called ‘company’. The host announced, “This looks like The Alphabet Company” to a laughing audience.
That announcement in 1982 led to the creation of The Alphabet Company that we’re writing about today. In early 1998, it was an unofficial service company. It would later be called Alphabetical Local Ads in December 1998. Later it would simply be called “Alphabet”.
This “Alphabet” would grow into a branded program called “Alphabet Domains” in 2007. Since it had so many domain names for promotions, it came to be called “The Alphabet Company” in 2009.
As R&D accelerated into more in-depth research, development, and transition into a mobile only app program, The Alphabet Company increased its connection to going all-mobile.
In 2010, there was no mobile website, so we had to create one, one that works. R&D connected us with resources that made it possible to have an all-mobile program.
The Alphabet Company had years of opposition.
No one had thought of naming their domain business Alphabet Domains, at least publicly. Once we branded our program Alphabet Domains, it drew a lot of attention.
What escaped many was the use of ‘Alphabet’ was not just about domains it was used to describe many of our programs including our local ads program, Alphabet Local Ads.
As many found out, ‘Alphabet’ uses the signature colors of gold over black with the word ‘Alphabet’ at the top of many programs. Those color choices are credited to the mother of one of the developers.
The opposition was almost immediate in 1998. It was not because of the name only. It was because of the online growth. As the company grew so did the opposition from those who had their own reasons.
After twenty-five years of challenges, The Alphabet Company name is still here and staying strong in the face of a storm of opposition by some who wanted the name for themselves so much they were willing to spend years trying to acquire it.
Just as opposition raised its head, allies worked quietly behind the scenes to identify those responsible. Just as the Founders knew opposition would be constantly present, so The Alphabet Company knew not everyone would support the goals and aspirations of the family behind its creation and growth.
The British came back in 1812
History tells us the British returned to England as a defeated army in the mid-1880s. But they were not finished. In 1812, they returned and proceeded to attack the United States again.
They fought the armed forces of the United States with all of their might. They crossed the Potomac River and burned the White House to the ground.
This was called the “War of 1812”. This war went on from 1812-1815 when the British lost in their assault on New Orleans. This war lasted 2 years, 7 months, 4 weeks, and 2 days.
The Americans fought valiantly under men like John Rodgers and Andrew Jackson. That’s why Americans continue to fight for the right to be left alone and to preserve the Union against all its enemies even to this day.
21st Century businesses have to be strong
Every single business has headwinds they have to overcome. Some overt and some are covert. Regardless of the opponents, business owners have to take action in the face of those who want to destroy their business.
What type of opposition are business owners facing today? In recent years crimes against businesses have increased to record levels. Theft of merchandise by crowds of looters and robbers are worse than ever.
Mobs of retail thieves are attacking big box stores and mom-and-pop family businesses and operations. Some cities across this great nation are struggling to contain these violent mob of thieves. Some large retail chains have reported billions of dollars in losses.
Some small retailers are experiencing record losses. Some small local businesses have simply closed their doors permanently because of record losses. These type losses are not sustainable in the small business space. and yet more small businesses are opening everyday.
Never be afraid to start a business
The video above provides example of startup ideas you can use in your local community. We’ve learned many things that have helped us over the years – Never let what others do determine what you should do – find a way to overcome issues, but never quit!
This beautiful country the Founders fought to preserve must fight back against enemies foreign and domestic. Local business owners have to remain strong and increase security measures in and around their businesses.
Founders understood the need for security
The colonials always knew enemies were hiding in the hills and valleys around them. While they weren’t always visible, they were always present looking to wreak havoc on local settlements.
The original colonies added security to their planning profile to address the threats. Addressing the causes in a timely manner also helped. Crime fighting programs has made a big difference – crime rates in many areas are going down. Legal confinement has made a difference.
Education has played an important role in changing the behavior of cyber criminals, local thieves, and any variety of crimes. Criminal codes have advanced to the point where criminals realize that “crime doesn’t pay” for long.
Many have said that the world is “on fire”. Many would say, “the neighborhood is on fire”. Crime and violence are like a fire burning through our communities.
Various programs have been able to successfully reduce crime in one area. Like the Founders, we all have a personal responsibility to secure our environment.
The humble beginning of The Alphabet Company
The Alphabet Company has had many struggles in order to become a global media company in e-commerce, education, and entertainment. With 2024 coming the company hopes to see its support for small business grow.
Part of the company is called Alphabet Local Ads. This division will help small businesses find ways to increase revenue through its Novelnomics.com program.
The acronym for The Alphabet Company
The word ‘ALPHABET’ is actually an acronym for Alphabet Leadership Program to Help Advance Business Education and Technology in local communities.
In the spirit of our Founding Fathers, many of whom came from humble beginnings, became role models for us today as we strive to keep moving forward. Eventually, criminal elements will move on looking for new victims.
The Alphabet Company and its portfolio of affiliates will continue to work hard to enter into the media, e-commerce, education, and entertainment space early next year. The company will finally launch with support from local entities in 2024.
